Tim Carter

Pastor Tim Carter

Tim G. Carter brings a distinctive voice to Wesleyan ministry through his lifelong devotion to Christ’s Kingdom. Born in 1959 in North Carolina, Tim graduated from John Wesley College in 1982 with a double major in theology and psychology, launching a dynamic career that blended sales, marketing, and global travels with faithful pastoral service.

Since graduating, Tim has held various ministry-related roles, often bi-vocational, serving Quaker churches in Tennessee and North Carolina for more than two decades. Following a call back to his Wesleyan-Arminian roots, he now serves as pastor of Sawyersville Wesleyan Church.

Tim is known for his high energy, strong work ethic, and passionate preaching. An avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman, and gardener, he deeply connects with God through the rhythms of nature. He has also authored a 2014 self-help book on positive thinking and is working on a new book exploring the miraculous power of Psalm 23.

Beyond ministry, Tim has been a lifelong martial arts instructor and fifth-degree black belt, founding a Shotokan-based style and mentoring countless students with Christ at the center of his teaching. Now, he is preparing to pass on that legacy to the next generation.

Tim and his beloved wife Dawn, partners in ministry since 2001, have raised a blended family of six children. After losing their first spouses, God brought them together to help each other finish raising their families. Drawn to the Christ-centered, loving community of Sawyersville, they recently relocated and are serving side by side to build God’s Kingdom.

Tim’s deep commitment to Jesus is unmistakable—24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. He is grateful for God’s clear leading to Sawyersville Wesleyan Church and looks forward to inspiring and equipping others to advance the mission of Christ.
