A New Season of Ministry: Pastor Timothy Grant Carter Announces Departure

Sawyersville Wesleyan Church — Wed, 19 Aug 2026 13:42:51 +0000

Dear Sawyersville Church & Friends,

After a season of fruitful ministry that we will always cherish, Dawn and I are preparing to say goodbye, as we believe God is leading us to new harvest fields of service. We want to thank this church family from the bottom of our hearts for your love, your strength, and for the privilege of serving you. We walk away with love and deep gratitude for all the wonderful moments of fellowship & ministry we have shared together.

As we step forward into this next chapter, our hearts are full of clarity and steady purpose for the future. It will be a true blessing to have D.S. Tim Jones come in to help following our departure on September 30th, and we are so proud of our 27-year-old Assistant Pastor, Josh Tipton as he steps into new opportunities to preach, teach, and serve, especially as he and Makala prepare to welcome a new baby! We leave with unwavering love, wishing only the absolute best for this church. Also, we ask that you keep Dawn and me in your prayers as we seek our next ministry step, as we will certainly be keeping you in ours.

Pastor Timothy Grant Carter & my partner in ministry & life – my sweet wife Dawn Carter.

Please join us in welcoming Josh Tipton as our new Assistant Pastor

Sawyersville Wesleyan Church — Mon, 11 May 2026 13:23:58 +0000

We are thrilled to announce a powerful new addition to our leadership team. Please join us in welcoming Josh Tipton as our new Assistant Pastor!

At 27, Josh is a fully ordained Wesleyan pastor currently pursuing his Master of Divinity. He personally trained under our District Superintendent, Tim Jones, and as you would expect, brings the highest level of character & conscience with him. His high-octane energy and significant track record in Young Adult and Youth ministries are just what our community needs.

This is a significant step forward for Sawyersville as we improve our service & reach the next generation.

Another strength that makes Josh truly exceptional is his balanced heart – he is driven to reach the young while maintaining a healthy respect for the heritage of our church and the Seniors we serve.

Josh is joined by his wonderful wife, Makala.

They are avid disc golfers and excited to be part of our community. The most joyous news of all? They expect their firstborn this September!

We invite you to join us on Sunday, May 24th, for Josh’s first official day of ministry, when he will deliver the morning message.

Sawyersville is growing, the Spirit is moving, and a new day is dawning. Come see for yourself what God is doing in our midst!

– Senior Pastor Timothy Grant Carter

A special message from Pastor Tim

Sawyersville Wesleyan Church — Wed, 24 Dec 2025 17:10:50 +0000

Dear Sawyersville family (and friends),
– As we gather in heart and spirit on this holy Christmas Eve, I want to share a bit of my recent journey with you. This is a quiet testimony of grace that I’ve truly experienced-and I’m grateful to walk it with you.
It started with a surprise test result revealing a 90-99% blocked carotid artery-my own “widowmaker.” Doctors warned of devastating risks either way: surgery could bring a stroke, or waiting meant certain death or disability. My wife Dawn Carter and I truly faced the valley of the shadow of death, praying in faith yet prepared for the worst.
Yet God granted more time. Neither death nor disability was His plan now.
– Amid the pain and discomfort, I’ve found great blessing: where things hurt, things are working to recover. There’s life, function, restored flow to my brain—even after verified strokes. I am so grateful for this beacon of hope, though trials remain.
– During the procedure and heart monitoring, doctors discovered more we needed to address: I’ll soon need a heart surgery. From where I stand, this knowledge is a miracle too – because we didn’t know before. Learning to take blood thinners (challenging with my old karate injuries!) is part of the path forward.
As I prepared physically for my surgery, I breathed prayers: “Lord, do You still want me to continue training and growing the ministry?” And to that question, God answered with a quiet miracle: the full funds for my Master’s degree arrived in one check- the day before hospitalization. Divine timing? Undeniably. It fuels my longing to live restored-serving Christ fully in whatever years remain. I am His, and He is mine, and His Banner Over Me Is Love!
– How fitting that my book (with my wonderful friend Margo DeGange helping complete it) is titled The Miracle Power of Psalms 23, and that this season has brought the name “Shepherd23.” It captures my calling – to guide, serve, and pour out benevolence and philanthropy with every breath. Through these trials, I sense the same gracious hand that once led me through the woods, captured as an orb of light on my trail camera 2 years ago. It’s the genuine thing, light leading in the dark.
And so we celebrate this wonderful holy day called Christmas, where Christ invaded the darkness of our world with His Holy Light.
Christmas is no holiday to me-it’s the holiest of days, the greatest proof God entered history in pure virtue and love beyond imagination: Christ born for us. Tonight on Christmas Eve, I’ll lead those who gather in sweet, silent reverence of this Silent Night.
– My prayer is that God restoratively shine His light to carry us all.
As your shepherd, I’m deeply thankful for each of you- our church family. Let’s hold this holy night close, letting the Light of the world fill our hearts anew. If you’re able, join us tonight for this special time together. 5:00-5:30 and then you can get back to the joy of your families & friends.
What stirs in your spirit as we remember the manger? Feel free to share below—we’re family here.
Merry Christmas Eve, beloved ones. Rest in His peace.
Pastor Tim / Shepherd23
Timothy Grant Carter

Sawyersville Wesleyan Church — Mon, 08 Dec 2025 16:20:21 +0000

On December 6, about 30 of us went from the church to Journey to Bethlehem in Thomasville. We had a wonderful time and my wife Dawn Carter lead in hymns on the way over. We had wondrously special hot chocolate and saw one of the most professional beautiful live nativity Productions that is done anywhere ever!
